Word-Person
Jesus taught by way of metaphors and parables. This way we receive truth and sureness, yet freedom to explore the levels of meaning in the stories.
What is the key to the parables?
The sower is Jesus. The seed scattered around the place is the Word. Our hearts are the earth – fertile, fruitful or otherwise.
What is the seed – the Word – scattered?
Remarkably, it is a Word-Person. Let’s put it this way:
It belongs to persons to express themselves. God does just this. He expresses himself – he speaks – and the speaking is so perfect that it is a Word-Person.
God is love. The Father and Son (Word) love each other so perfectly that we have a Love-Person – the Holy Spirit.
So, we made in God’s image and likeness, are to act with truth and love:
We are to speak and act in truth; we are to speak and act with love.
Naturally enough, this leads to a deepening of hope in our families, our communities, our places of work.
That seed-word is powerful. Almost invisible:
Yet once it is sown it grows into the biggest shrub, putting out big branches, shading the birds of the air (Mark 4).
Amen.
