Wonderful gifts of women
Archbishop Christopher Prowse has acknowledged the wonderful work women do in the Archdiocese and the gifts they share with the community.
His comments come as International Women’s Day is celebrated across the world on March 8 with the theme “Choose to Challenge”.
“My hope for International Women’s Day is that the world will become more sensitised to the gifts of women around the table of international dialogue,” he said.
As chairman of the Bishops Commission for Evangelisation, Laity and Ministry, Archbishop Christopher will take part in a national consultation via Zoom with Catholic women from across Australia to celebrate their contribution and their vision for the mission of the Church.
“The bishops want to stand alongside these women, listen carefully and do what we can to support their initiatives,” he said.
ACT Young Australian of the Year Tara McClelland told Merici College students their voice was important and deserved a platform.
“If you see an injustice, if you have something you want to give back to, now is the time,” she said.
“Just as the IWD theme says ‘Choose to Challenge’, now is the time for us to speak up, stand out and create the world we want to be a part of.
“There may be gender biases, inequality, mental health, racism, climate justice; if you are passionate about it, speak up.”
