Vinnies landmark social housing project in Dubbo

St Vincent de Paul Housing has opened a new 21-villa development for Seniors at Macleay Street in Dubbo on the site of the former St Faith’s hostel for girls.

The dwellings are available for social housing eligible clients aged 55 and over. The redevelopment contains 2 x one-bedroom, 15 x two-bedroom and 4 x three-bedroom villas. All are designed to the Silver level for accessibility with eight designed to further cater to tenants with disabilities.

A former church on the site has been converted into a community space for the benefit of the residents and volunteers. In recognition of the sites past, Vinnies has retained the St Faith’s name for the development and the community centre.

St Vincent de Paul Housing will provide tailored support coordination services. This support will help tenants connect to the services they require under a structured support plan. Allied to this will be the renowned support provided by the local Vinnies volunteers.

St Vincent de Paul Housing CEO, Brian Murnane said of the opening last month: “We are delighted to re-open the St Faith’s site as Seniors’ housing and to continue its proud history of being of service to the people of Dubbo”.

The project was built by David Payne Constructions and is the first of 12 projects to be completed, developed and operated by St Vincent de Paul Housing for the NSW Government’s Social and Affordable Housing Fund (the SAHF).

Minister for Social Housing Pru Goward said the SAHF showed what could be achieved when the Government worked closely with agencies like St Vincent de Paul to deliver great outcomes for vulnerable people.

“By embracing a collaborative approach, the Government and St Vincent de Paul Housing are helping people to break the cycle of disadvantage and move towards greater independence,” Ms Goward said.

As of September 2018, the SAHF has delivered over 160 homes across NSW for people who need them most, with around 800 dwellings currently under construction.
