The gentle breeze
It’s easier to see the presence of God in extraordinary, earth shaking, world changing events than in the mundane. Naturally, we are more drawn to a God who is unequivocally in control, and showing his power.
The prophet Elijah, standing on the mountain where he had gone to escape being killed, was given quite a show by the Lord. First, a mighty wind that shattered rocks, then an earthquake, then a fire. The Lord was in none of these.
God didn’t seek the headlines then any more than he does now.
Instead, he was in the gentle breeze; the kind of manifestation that only those with the heart to see it would understand.
Elijah knew. He covered his face and went out to meet God.
Lord, guide me so that I might have the heart of Elijah.
