Side by Side

Six days before the Passover, Jesus went to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom he had raised from the dead. They gave a dinner for him there. Martha waited on them and Lazarus was among those at table (John 12).

Lazarus is present at the meal. So too Mary. So too Judas.

Fidelity side by side with infidelity.

The affection of Mary for Jesus is palpable. The deviousness of Judas is tangible.

The whole scene and setting is unforgettable, causing Mark to say ‘that what Mary has done will be told in memory of her (Mark 14).
