No Mere Appendage
Matthew 9 elicits ‘bridegroom’ imagery.
We understand that marriage has five key elements:
Man and woman establish the matrimonial covenant.
It is a partnership of the whole of life.
Marriage is for the good of the spouses.
Marriage is for the procreation and education of children.
The marriage covenant has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament (cf. CCC 1601).
From Jesus and our spiritual tradition we are given the distinct impression that marriage is no mere appendage.
Marriage is for family. Family is for society.
Society is built this way.
Amen.
