Masterpiece

St. Bonaventure (1218-1274) speaks evocatively of ‘passing-over’ to new life with Christ.

But, we ought,

Suspend all the operations of the mind and we must transform the peak of our affections, directing them to God alone.

It cannot be comprehended by anyone unless she surrenders herself to it; nor can she surrender herself to it unless she longs for it; nor can she long for it unless the Holy Spirit, whom Christ sent into the world, should come and inflame her innermost soul.
