Homicide

Cain kills his blood brother Abel.

It is the first homicide reported in the Bible (Genesis 4).

How does God respond?

As with Adam, after the original sin, God questions Cain. The questions are for Cain’s benefit, not God’s.

Because of the propensity for self-deception, God asks penetrating questions, to help Cain admit the truth and to deepen his understanding of what he has, in actual fact, done:
 

Where is your brother Abel?

What have you done?

God does not come pointing his finger.

No, he gently asks us questions.

Become silent and still. Let God be God.
