Freeze the moment
In the Transfiguration, Moses and Elijah appear in the company of Jesus, whose ‘face shone like the sun’ (Matthew 17).
Mountains are majestic. They can become a place for profound prayer. Moses and Elijah shared this in common, only to be trumped by this mercurial scene.
Why take just Peter, James and John? It must be Christ’s sovereign choice.
As one commentator says, Peter tries to ‘freeze the moment.’ And why not? ‘It is wonderful for us to be here.’
But the resurrection puts a stop to this type of hankering.
Christ is alive and everywhere.
Amen.
