Fr James Onoja Induction
During a Mass full of colour and celebration, Fr James Onoja was inducted as Parish Priest for the Young Mission (Boorowa, Grenfell and Young Parishes) at St Mary’s Church, Young. The mass was celebrated by Archbishop Christopher Prowse and concelebrated by Fr James and newly appointed Assistant Priest, Fr Praveen Paul and Deacon Patrick Whale assisted at the altar.
Members of the Young Mission and the African community from Canberra helped with Reading, Special Ministers of the Eucharist, Acolytes, Altar Serving and both cultures combining their musical and singing talents.
The day also included a mass of thanksgiving for Fr Praveen’s 40th Birthday, Fr Allen’s Birthday, Fr James’ 10 year Anniversary of Priestly Ordination and Fr James’ Induction as Parish Priest to Young Mission.
Archbishop Christopher gave insight into each priest’s cultural backgrounds as he encouraged us to share our many varied and distinct gifts to build up the body of Christ. The day was filled with celebrating, prayer, laughter, and a great sense of unity.
The day also brought great optimism, as in the morning we were dancing in the dust and by the afternoon we were dancing in the rain. A sure sign for a bright future with Fr James and Fr Praveen guiding us here in the Young Mission.
The Young Parish Pastoral Council organised a finger food luncheon catered for by the parishioners from the Young Mission and a delicious cake also marked the special occasion.
