On Wednesday 4 December, the Archdiocese of Canberra Goulburn is marking United Nations Human Rights Day by hosting a morning tea with guest speaker, Moe Turaga.
UN Sustainable Development Goal 8.7 calls on nations to take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour and end modern slavery and human trafficking.
For the last seven years, Moe has been sharing his powerful personal story to advocate for a more robust response to modern slavery in Australia.
Moe is actively engaged with vulnerable workers in horticulture, meat processing, hospitality and aged care on the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme.
He is also an important part of the Catholic response to modern slavery in Australia through his work as an expert adviser to Domus 8.7 Remediation Service and a consultant to the Australian Catholic Anti-slavery Network (ACAN).
The event will also be a chance to highlight the Archdiocese’s own work in putting people at the centre of the response to reducing the risk of modern slavery.
