Conflict Resolution 101

Jesus lays out a strategy here for resolving conflict well: do your best to work out an issue directly with the person involved before including others, and then only on a need-to-know basis. Notice He doesn’t mention going on social media to air our grievances! The aim is resolution, not a justification of one’s position or personal opinions, and protecting another’s good name and dignity is always our priority. And if this process doesn’t end in reconciliation and peace? “Treat them like a pagan or tax collector,” which sounds harsh but actually involves reaching out to them with love and prayer.

Lord Jesus, give me a desire for real peace with others and the courage to work for it in my relationships. Amen
