Catholic Education Director Ross Fox to conclude service at year’s end
In a significant announcement, Archbishop Christopher Prowse shared that Mr. Ross Fox, the Director of Catholic Education for the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn, has decided to resign after eight years of leadership, concluding in December 2024.
Archbishop Prowse lauded Mr Fox’s skilful management during a pivotal period for Catholic education, particularly amid the Commonwealth’s Gonski reforms, which led to severe funding reductions.
“Catholic education in our Archdiocese and across Australia owes him a significant debt,” the Archbishop remarked.
One of Mr Fox’s key initiatives has been addressing pressing literacy issues among students.
“He set the system the bold goal that every child would be a competent reader,” the Archbishop stated, highlighting Mr Fox’s influence in enhancing educational standards nationwide.
“These transformations have been substantial but are only just beginning to bear fruit,” the Archbishop noted.
Another significant achievement is the ‘Faith in Learning’ strategy, which emphasises Truth, Beauty, and Goodness. Earlier this year Mr Fox facilitated a visit from Cardinal-elect Timothy Radcliffe OP, who led a retreat for principals.
In addressing his departure, Mr. Fox expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead. “I thank the Archbishop for his trust and confidence over eight years leading Catholic education in the Archdiocese. It has been a true blessing to put Truth, Beauty, and Goodness at the heart of our new strategic plan.”
He praised the schools’ collaborative efforts and highlighted record enrollment numbers as a testament to their success.
Archbishop Prowse concluded by thanking Mr Fox for his leadership. “I take this opportunity to thank Mr. Fox for his courage in redefining our approach to education while advocating for just funding.” He also wished Mr Fox and his family well as they embarked on a new chapter.
