Asking for anything and everything
Crises, such as the current pandemic, make us aware of our mortality: that we basically depend on God for life at every moment. This is always true, but in “normal” times we can forget this and live as though we are the ones in control of our lives. It is comforting to realise that God is the source of everything we need. That our loving Father wants to give us all that we need. The scriptures repeat this again and again:
“If two of you on earth agree to ask anything at all, it will be granted…” Mat18:20. “…if there is anything you need, pray for it…” Phil 4:6.
We can probably all immediately think of something we have prayed for where God did not seem to hear. Despite this difficult mystery, we can know that God desires to give us the best. It is in our asking where we realise that our lives are a gift and where we remember we are sustained by God’s love in every moment.
Lord give us the faith to keep asking you for anything and everything.
