Archbishop Prowse’s Statement on the Death of Pope Francis
Easter Tuesday, 22 April, 2025
Message from Archbishop Prowse
Death of Pope Francis
On Easter Monday, our much-loved and humble Pope Francis 1936 – 2025 has died at the age of 88. May he rest in Peace.
Throughout his Pontificate (beginning 13 March 2013) he has pleaded with us very frequently to pray for him.
Now in his death, let us pray for him fervently and with grateful hearts.
Let us stop wherever we are today at 12 noon and pray the Angelus Prayer for him. Join me in the Cathedral or join me online via Livestream [HERE]
I also invite you all to a special Mass for the repose of Pope Francis’ soul.
It will be celebrated in St Christopher’s Cathedral today on Easter Tuesday 22nd April at 6.00pm. This will enable us to pray for him and reflect on the many gifts and charisms he has so selflessly offered the Church and all the world in his remarkable life. The Mass will be livestreamed [HERE]. All are welcome.
May I request over the next few weeks that in our parishes and communities, Masses and prayers be offered for Pope Francis. We pray too for the Church in this transition time. Please find attached some liturgical resources for your attention.
