Am I a good vineyard worker?

Today’s Gospel invites us to reflect on how we view the kingdom of God. Is being Christian about surviving a tough life and then receiving a just reward at the end? Or is it about working to help bring about God’s kingdom and realizing with gratitude that we have been called and known by God? 

If it is the latter, we will undoubtedly ask why some of these workers begin in the vineyard at such a late hour. This question reminds us that many people don’t know Jesus because no one has shared the good news with them, and as such, they have not been invited to work in the vineyard.

It also offers a powerful reminder to focus on the mission of God’s kingdom, not who gets credit for it.

Lord, help us have generous hearts and be ready to share Jesus with all we meet.
