Adore and Receive
The feast of the Epiphany is so engaging. The theme of light is prominent:
Arise, shine out, Jerusalem, for your light has come, the glory of the Lord is rising on you (Isaiah 60).
Faith is light, revealing the glory of God. Like the wise men, we fall down in adoration.
St. Augustine famously said:
Who would dare receive what one has not adored?
We have an invitation to renew our love of Holy Mass:
Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
If only we would just take the prayers of the Mass at face value and let them sink in over time, how our spiritual lives would be enriched (St. John Henry Newman).
We simply need to pray in the Spirit (Ephesians 6), and the prayers of the Mass speak:
The Word of God proclaimed with faith.
The Word Made Flesh – the Lord’s Sacred Body and Precious Blood.
Our spiritual tradition is enormous and profoundly beautiful:
Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
Amen.
