A feast of pancakes at Trinity Catholic College Goulburn
Brightly coloured pancakes flipped and turned today at Trinity Catholic College in Goulburn, as students marked Shrove Tuesday by competing for the school’s Pancake Cup.
Principal Gaye McManus said the pancakes were cooked by Year 12 student leaders, and greatly enjoyed by everyone.
“Pancakes had to be flipped at different points along the relay route,” she explained.
“We had red-, blue-, green- and yellow-coloured pancakes representing the different Houses.”
Mrs McManus said there was also a more serious side to the rollicking fun.
“It is always important to mark Shrove Tuesday because it reminds us that the season of Lent follows, and we need to prepare ourselves for prayer, almsgiving and fasting,” she said.
“During Lent, we give up the rich treats including butter, sugar and flour, so there is the big clearing out of the pantry to ready ourselves for Lent.”
The principal said it was fantastic to come together as a community and celebrate a significant religious occasion in the liturgical calendar.
“A feast of pancakes is a wonderful way of bringing students and staff together,” she said.
Tomorrow, Trinity Catholic College students will attend Ash Wednesday Mass and, during Lent, raise funds for Project Compassion.
“Each House will try to raise more money than the other Houses through bringing in donations each day to homeroom as well as providing cake stalls and ice cream stalls,” Mrs McManus said.
“Everyone dresses in green on St Patrick’s Day to raise funds for Project Compassion as well. At Trinity, we seem to love our food and sense of fun!”
