Global 2033 initiative sparks enthusiasm at Evangelisation Summit in Canberra

2033 Global Leaders Summit, Canberra

The Evangelization Summit 2024, hosted by the Archdiocese in Canberra, has garnered international attention with the arrival of prominent figures Henry and Sabina Capello, as well as Father Bernard de Terves.

These guests are instrumental in advancing the Global 2033 initiative, which seeks to unite Christian leaders worldwide in anticipation of the 2000th anniversary of Christ’s resurrection and Pentecost.

Henry Capello, chair of the Global 2033 Consortium, and his wife, Sabina, recently returned from pivotal meetings in the Philippines and South Korea and are now in Canberra to share their vision for 2033.

“The 2000th anniversary of the death and resurrection of Christ is capturing the imaginations and hearts of many Catholic leaders,” Mr Capello stated.

“Global 2033 is a consortium focused on mobilizing and equipping the Church for evangelization, especially between Easter and Pentecost.”

A significant aspect of the initiative is the goal of creating 133 million missionary disciples, with a strong emphasis on empowering women.

Sabina Capello highlighted, “Women are a vital sector, and we aim to raise them in their God-given dignity and vocation alongside men.”

Father Bernard de Terves, the general secretary for the initiative, underscored the importance of engaging young people.

“It’s essential for the present church that young people experience the joy of sharing the gospel,” he said. “Our goal is to reach the next generation with this joy.”

The summit has brought together over 50 leaders from ecclesial communities, ministries, movements, and educational contexts across Australia, both Catholic and non-Catholic.

The gathering focuses on raising emerging leaders and encouraging ministries to nominate new voices for leadership roles.

A central theme of the summit is collaboration. Participants will explore where the Holy Spirit has already been at work in Australia and share insights, engage in strategic creativity, and develop innovative methods for future endeavours.

Prayer is an integral part of the summit, with participants seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit in their mission.

The event concludes with the reminder that the Holy Spirit is the true leader in the Church.

“This is not a structured conference,” one organizer said. “It’s about people coming together to pray, collaborate, and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us for the greater glory of God.”

The Evangelisation Summit 2024 in Canberra marks a significant step forward for the Global 2033 initiative, as it seeks to unite Christians worldwide in a shared mission of evangelisation.
