Turnstiles
We’ve got to get through those turnstiles if we want to see the game.
We get to the footy and the crowd is pressing all around, line after line, slowly progressing to the turnstile.
We get there. One at a time, we go through – deliberately.
Suddenly everything opens up and the patient wait is all worthwhile.
Think of Luke 13:22-30 like this.
Jesus is teaching in towns and villages and a curious fella asks:
‘Sir, will there be only a few saved?’
He said to them, ‘Try your best to enter by the narrow door, because, I tell you, many will try to enter and will not succeed.’
So only a few saved? Actually no:
Many from east and west, north and south, will come to take their places.
We’ve got to go through those turnstiles. Do we really want to experience the ‘game’ of resurrected life?
Life is about making decisions. Procrastination won’t cut it. By all means discern, but decide.
Naturally enough, every decision is a ‘narrow door,’ but what is initially experienced as restricting, is progressively experienced as an ‘opening up to a whole new world.’
Luke 13 is a great text for young people.
Amen.
