Plenary Zoom meetings under way

Archbishop Christopher and Fr Richard Thompson facilitate the Southern Deanery Zoom meeting

Parishioners in the eastern and southern deaneries of the Archdiocese have had their say in Zoom meetings organised in preparation for the upcoming Plenary Council.

Archbishop Christopher Prowse joined participants, deans and archdiocesan members to respond to the working document ‘Continuing the Journey’.

“We are at the half way mark and I have found it very interesting listening to the reflections of the Church from the Eastern Deanery last week and today with the Southern Deanery,” Archbishop Christopher said.

“The thing that I have learnt from both meetings is that the smaller the community the more people have the opportunity of gathering together, and the bigger the church community the more challenges there are for people to engage as Church.”

Fr Richard Thompson facilitated today’s Southern Deanery meeting.

Four main focus questions helped to stimulate conversation including where the Holy Spirit is acting in parishes, deaneries, the Archdiocese and across the nation.

“I found it very positive partly because it was an exercise in real listening and the participants were respectful in their engagement,” he said.

The Western Deanery Zoom meeting will be held at noon on Tuesday 25 May, and the Northern Deanery meeting at 5pm on Friday 28 May.
