Introduction to Christian Meditation
16 March 2021 @ 7:15 PM
FreeEach Tuesday evening in Lent from February 23rd 2021
Start: 7.15pm (finish 8.30pm)
All welcome – beginners and experienced meditators alike
We often associate Lent with “giving something up”, but it can also be a good time to “take something up”. Perhaps as a preparation for Easter, or if you have been wondering what Christian Meditation is about, here is an opportunity to taste and experience it, with an introductory program. This form of silent and imageless prayer originated with the early desert fathers and mothers of the 4th century. This ancient tradition was recovered for contemporary men and women by John Main (1926-1982) and is nurtured ecumenically across the world, particularly through the teachings of Fr Laurence Freeman OSB.
In this radically simple practice we are just endeavouring to be – to be in God’s presence – in stillness and silence by turning our attention beyond ourselves – a way of laying aside our thoughts and concerns.
Christian Meditation is a journey in prayer of absolute simplicity, indeed the simpler the better. There are no difficult theories or techniques to master; there are no complicated books to read. The simplicity of Christian meditation is held within Psalm 46:10 – “Be still and know that I am God”
No need to register, just turn up!
