“My Soul Glorifies the Lord”

Have you ever experienced a moment of joy and awe at God’s work?

Today we hear Mary’s hymn of praise to God for all that he has done in her life. It reads as a spontaneous outpouring of gratitude from a young woman who is able to see clearly the way God has acted, and is acting.

Later in her life, this same plan of God’s brought her extraordinary suffering, but she did not retract her song of praise. She did not say “ I thought you were good, but I was wrong!” She trusted that God would bring good out of her dismay. And God did. For us all.

She put her faith in something deeper than nice circumstances or feelings. Can we do the same?
