Body Posture

St. Anthony of Padua (1195-1231) is attributed with the saying, “Actions speak louder than words.”

Less well known is the follow on: “Let your words teach and your actions speak.”

Faced with a malicious act by the mob, Jesus does just this. He speaks with his actions and he teaches with his words.

Meditate on John 8. Notice the body posture of Jesus.

Jesus is not only left alone with the woman, but he is kneeling and she is standing, almost as if she is “standing” in judgment over him.

Jesus teaches well, but how he speaks!
