Professional standards training workshop Mary Help of Christians Parish
On 30 October, Maria Hicks and Brenda Foley from the Archdiocesan Professional Standards Office (IPSS) ran a very successful training workshop on the Archdiocesan policies and practice for safeguarding children and vulnerable peoples in the Mary Help of Christians Parish hall, South Woden.
The hour and half presentation was attended by 38 eager adult volunteers representing all the major voluntary ministries in the parish. All paid staff, including both Fr Adrian Chan and Parish Priest Fr Richard Thompson were also in attendance.
The workshop not only highlighted IPSS policies and but also gave attendees the opportunity to ask questions that arose from some real and challenging life situations that the IPSS team had experienced. The handout that accompanied the workshop also gave some practical advice and workable strategies to assist the volunteers and staff. Fr Richard said “that the training was essential for all involved members of the parish because it highlighted our processes and the people resources behind those processes, those who support us so strongly in our parish.” If you parish would like to book the IPSS team for the Safeguard training, contact Maria Hicks at maria.hicks@cg.org.au or (02) 6201 9806
